146. Striped Catfish (Plotosus lineatus) on the Tug II

Subject:

Striped Catfish (Plotosus lineatus) are very often seen in Mauritian waters.

Adults of this very venomous fish find refuge in smaller groups under ledges and overhangs during the day, like here between the stern and the rudder of the Tug II.

Technique:

Rather than pointing my video lights slightly outwards, so that not only the subject is lit but also its environment, I concentrated both beams on the knot of catfish to create a natural vignette (a school of catfish is sometimes called a ball or a knot).
