FAQ

I don’t have a PADI Open Water certification, but a certification with another training agency. What certifications are equivalent to the PADI OW certification?
Equivalent levels to the PADI Open Water Diver certification are:
      BSAC Ocean/Club/Sport Diver
      CMAS One Star Diver
      NAUI OWI or plain
      SSI Open Water Diver

I don’t have a Nitrox compatible dive computer, can I still do the course?
Yes of course. Nitrox tables can be used for the SCR level.
For the CCR course we supply special constant partial pressure tables.
All our rebreathers are equipped with oxygen monitors so that at all times you know what percentage of oxygen you are breathing.

What can I do when I have completed my training and want to gain more experience on the Voyager?
We have units available to rent and we would be more than happy to take you on guided fun dives so you can gain additional experience safely.

How deep will we go during the SCR course?
Rebreather diving involves a complete change to open-circuit diving in terms of buoyancy control, and good buoyancy control is essential in all dive activities. We spend therefore a lot of time around the depth of 10 metres (33 feet) or shallower where the difference in pressure, and therefore in buoyancy control, are the greatest. This ensures that you become a competent rebreather diver. For safety and liability reasons we limit the first three training dives to a maximum depth of 18 metres (60 feet). The additional three dives can be conducted to a maximum depth of 30 metres (100 feet).

What personal dive equipment do I have to bring with me?
Besides your certification cards and logbook you need to bring the basics (mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit). Although Bali is in the tropics water temperature can vary from a chilling 19°C (66°F) to more than comfortable 30°C (86°F). We recommend therefore that you use a full 5mm wetsuit. Always keep in mind that your bottom times on a rebreather are much longer than in open-circuit (bottom times of 90 minutes or more are not exceptional) and therefore you might get cold after 45 minutes, even in 30°C (86°F) water and even on a rebreather who's supplying the diver with warm, moist gas.

When is the best time to dive Bali?
Diving in Bali is excellent all year round. There are two distinct seasons here: the dry monsoon (May to October) and the wet monsoon (November to April). During the dry monsoon weather conditions are better (more sun, less rain, nice temperatures) but you won’t be alone on most of the dive sites. In the wet monsoon (more rain, less sun and sometimes very warm even at night) there are fewer tourists in Bali and thus fewer divers.

How old do I have to be to enrol in a Voyager rebreather course?
In accordance with both PADI and IATA standards you need to be 18 prior to the start of the course.

Is certification on the Voyager rebreather recognized worldwide?
Yes. IATA is the training agency of H.B. Technology (previous Aquatek), the manufacturer of the Voyager rebreather. IATA is the only certifying agency for all levels on the Voyager and is well known amongst rebreather divers. IATA certifications are recognized worldwide.
For the SCR course we will issue you with both the IATA SCR certification (for all certified divers) and PADI Distinctive Specialty Voyager SCR certification (only if the diver has an "Advanced Diver" certification and logged 50 scuba dives). PADI is the world leader in diving education.

Can I bring a underwater camera with me during the training dives?
No for the three first dives. You will need to focus on your buoyancy, effective gas control, etc. so students are not permitted to dive with underwater cameras during the rebreather training dives. After certification however you are more than welcome to bring your camera (for the three next dives scheduled in our offer).

Can I buy my own Voyager rebreather prior to enrolling on in the course?
You will first have to be certified on the Voyager rebreather before purchasing a unit for personal use. Once you are a certified Voyager rebreather diver (SCR level is sufficient) you will be able to buy your own unit.

If I am certified on the Voyager rebreather can I dive with any type of rebreather?
No. Although all rebreathers use the same principle, each rebreather works slightly differently and therefore each model of rebreather requires training specific to that rebreather. This is the case for all rebreathers worldwide.

I am certified on another rebreather, can I do only part of the course in order to be certified on the Voyager Rebreather?
Crossover courses between different types of rebreather do not exist. Shortening the course, even for a diver certified on a different rebreather, would be in breach of IATA and PADI standards. Full training on the Voyager rebreather ensures that you master all necessary theoretical and practical aspects in order to dive safely on the unit.

I am a rebreather diver and have my own unit. Is it possible to hire rebreather tanks, obtain oxygen/Nitrox fills or buy scrubber material?
Yes, we have a full support program for all rebreather divers. Please see Prices or Support for further information.
